Day 2 of Blogmas - Christmas Memories and Traditions

Today marks day 2 of my 12 days of Blogmas posts, and hope you are enjoying it. Incase you missed yesterday's post, click here. It discussed my wishlist for Christmas 2016.

Unfortunately due to moving and a lot of boxes still being unpacked, in the spare room, I couldn't find any old pictures of me celebrating Christmas, which I would have loved to share. However if I do, I will attach some to the post before Blogmas is over!

For this post, I wanted to discuss traditions and memories.

I can't think of a specific or one "fantastic" memory of Christmas. I just remember my favourite Christmasses having more people around. We used to have my Gran around, and I'm sure whether it was Christmas or during the new year, but we sometimes had my Mum's friends around. I think a Christmas with more people is somehow more fun.

That being said, it is usually a Christmas of me, my Mum, Dad and the dogs. I love it being close-knit with the two people who love me most. I still feel like a big kid who expects her presents in her stocking; to be bought an advent calendar every year from my mum and a yearly argument or three.

No matter what we're doing, Mum's cooking is always amazing. I'm not a huge fan of roast dinners but love the food at Christmas  I usually have turkey, gravy, pigs in blankets, mash and anything else I might have specifically asked for. Mum is like the food Santa when Christmas is involved! We ask, she gets. Throughout the day I laze infront of the telly like many might do, use or try my new gifts and stuff my face with chocolate and treats until I can eat no more.

The only specific memory I remember as a child is being asked what I thought of my presents, and saying to my mum one year: "Everything is perfect, but wish Santa hadn't bothered getting that!" and pointed to some stuffed doll thing. Years later, I still cringe at being so spoilt and ungrateful.

What are you Christmas memories and traditions? It's always fun to hear how people's Christmases vary.

  1. I'm the same, not particularly a fan of roasts, but come Christmas, I really couldn't eat anything else!

  2. I love readng about people's memories. I laughed at your description of your comment on the stuffed doll. My sister, when she was about three, once ran to open her present before my parents had told her it was hers. Thankfully it was or I'd have been quite angry.

  3. Well, it's be church on Christmas Eve and usually some kind of family gathering on the day itself. As I've got older I've not really been able to predict where that is but it can be anywhere' Otherwise, no real traditions for my family. I am making it sound very dull aren't it??? That said, I have a few photos of my family and I celebrating as a kid.

  4. We have so many! The one I like the best is where we all get a chocolate orange in our Christmas stockings, then we go and eat them on Brighton beach on Christmas day.

  5. I think I was lucky when I was a kid at Christmas. Living with a brother who had Cererbal Palsy, lots of my attention was spent on him and making sure he's ok and enjoyed the presents that Father Christmas brought. Amazing times and ones I'll always cherish.

  7. I love roasts! But I hate vegetables! So when people 3/4 fill the plates with veg, I'm always pretty hungry afterwards! Haha.
I love that you still feel like a big kid, I'm embarrased to admit I miss that feeling. I now have my own children to make sure they feel like that, but I miss feeling like that myself! Haha xx

  9. Love hearing about different traditions. I used to hate Christmas dinner, but as I get older I seem to be more fond. I just love Yorkshire Puddings!

  12. I love a christmas roast dinner! This year I will be going to my Grandma's for dinner after hosting myself the last two years. First year as a single mum too so I am guessing all our traditions will change again this year.

  13. We have been together now three years and this will be our third Christmas together and until this year we hadn't realised we had traditions. Ours are to do a present challenge instead of buying over expensive gifts for each other. To always wear a Christmas jumper on Christmas day. To do the tree in a certain way and to add something new each year to our interior decoration. We buy new PJs each year and slippers and we enjoy the same films. We always have the same chocolates and we open our presents with each other in the morning and then see all the family! x

    1. Sounds like some lovely traditions 😊 I don't think you realise your traditions until you hear what others do differently x

  14. I love Holiday Traditions--it makes life more interesting and meaningful :) I never really grew up with Christmas due to the religion my family was in growing up but we still enjoyed the season. Some of our traditions incude jumping right at midnight on New Years, opening presents, and then enjoying a huge midnight feast :D Now that I am married my husband and I are planning our own holiday traditions :)
